Ethiopia is being hired by the World Bank’s Country Office in Ethiopia. Ethiopian citizens are eligible for the roles, which are headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This morning, the Ethiopia First Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Development Policy Operation was authorized by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors. This policy operation backs domestic changes that will eventually aid in the nation’s shift to a more inclusive economy that enables the private sector to make a larger contribution to growth. This participation will improve budgetary transparency, strengthen the banking system, and provide safeguards for low-income and vulnerable families during times of economic upheaval. It is made up of a $500 million concessional loan and a $1 billion grant from the International Development Association (IDA)*.

In order to address the underlying causes of macroeconomic imbalances and boost trade possibilities, the operation supports reforms that contribute to Ethiopia’s economy becoming more private sector oriented. Through reforms to enhance fiscal transparency, public spending effectiveness, state-owned enterprise performance, financial stability and competition, and social safety net expansion, the operation also supports a more inclusive and sustainable growth model.

“By enabling the nation to realize its full potential, these changes may enable more Ethiopians live prosperous lives. Maryam Salim, the World Bank’s Country Director for Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan, said that “there is an important emphasis on protecting poor and vulnerable people from the costs of economic adjustment and expanding opportunities for them to participate in the economy.”

The enterprise also helps promote sustainable land and forest management and improve access to renewable energy. This will help Ethiopia meet its climate change objectives and increase its ability to withstand climate-related threats. The World Bank’s larger portfolio in Ethiopia, which consists of investments in digital, energy, finance, health, education, social protection, agriculture, transportation and trade logistics, water and sanitation, and urban development, rounds out the operation.

Support for power sector reforms; investment projects on power transmission, distribution, and grid electrification; solar mini grids & standalone solar systems for households & communities; clean cooking and improved cook stoves; and interconnection with neighboring countries as part of the efforts to bring Ethiopia connected to the regional electricity network are among the ongoing energy portfolio and pipeline of projects in Ethiopia that the World Bank is working on.
